Hotel Accomodations: A limited block of rooms is available at the Ramada Tropics Resort and Conference Center for the night of November 17, 2014 for $89.00 plus tax. Refund Policy: There are no refunds available for this training. Tickets may not be resold at a higher rate.

This one-day training is designed to meet the needs of:

  • Parents and Primary Caregivers of individuals with disabilities
  • Individuals with disabilities who advocate for their own rights at school
  • Educators and Administrators
  • Attorneys and advocates who represent children with disabilities regarding special education
  • Social Workers
  • Health Care Professionals
This program is not disability or state specific.Those affected by any type of disability and from any state are welcome to attend.

The training will focus on four areas:

  • An overview of special education law, rights and responsibilities
  • Tests and measurements of progress and regression
  • SMART IEPs
  • Introduction to tactics & strategies for effective advocacy

CLE and CEU Information

Attorneys:   Six (6) CLEs

Foster and Adoptive Parents:  Six (6) Foster Parent In-Service Training Credits

Social Workers:  Six (6) CEUs

Graduate Credit:  One (1) Graduate Credit can be earned through Upper Iowa University (UIU). The cost (in addition to the registration fee) is $125.00, due with submission of the credit packet materials and assignment to UIU after the training.

Walk-in registration will be available tomorrow at a cost of $250 per person. Lunch will be provided as available. 

Pete Wright is a nationally recognized attorney who represents children with special needs. Pete has practiced special education law since the 1970’s, and, in 1993, successfully represented Shannon Carter before the US Supreme Court in Florence County v Shannon Carter (510 US 7). In the second grade, Pete was diagnosed with learning disabilities including dyslexia, dysgraphia and ADHD. He was fortunate--his learning problems were identified early. His determination to help children grew out of his own educational experiences. Pete is the co-author of several books including: Wrightslaw: Special Education Law; Wrightslaw: From Emotions to Advocacy; Wrightslaw; No Child Left Behind; Wrightslaw: IDEA 2004;  Wrightslaw: All About IEPs; and Wrightslaw: All About Tests and Assessments.
