Dinner Program
The Refrigeration and Science of Brewing
Have you ever thought about what makes a good beer? Proper ingredients and equipment are important. However, the brewing heating and refrigeration processes are what any brewer must master in order to make a quality beer. Local breweries JT Schmid’s, the Brewery, and Good Beer have generously provided ASHRAE access to their facilities to assemble January’s tasty presentation. An overview of the beer brewing process, refrigeration systems, and how they affect the styles that you’ve come to enjoy will be presented. Most of all we want to give you the opportunity to relax and more thoroughly appreciate what goes into your favorite craft beer.
Ed Mendieta
President / CEO, Sustained Solutions, Inc.
Ed Mendieta is a professional mechanical engineer and ASHRAE-OC member. Ed is the president of Sustained Solutions, Inc., a commissioning, training, and sustainable operations corporation located in Corona, California. Ed was introduced to home beer brewing by the Winiarski family (Stags Leap) in Northern California while attending the CSU Maritime Academy. Over the years, Ed has enjoyed beer brewing as a hobby and as a member of local beer brewing clubs. ASHRAE-OC invites you to participate in the emergence of the craft beer industry by having a pint and attending our January presentation at JT Schmid’s in Anaheim. Ed will describe how refrigeration technologies are utilized at local OC beer brewing operations to produce familiar beer styles such as ales and lagers.
