Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs):
What You Need to Know 

Does your locality need to establish a child abuse multidisciplinary response team per
§15.2-1627.5 of the Code of Virginia?

 

The Children’s Advocacy Centers of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services are partnering with the Southern Regional Child Advocacy Center (SRCAC) to sponsor this one day event. Presenters are Cym Doggett and Karen Hangartner with the SRCAC.

In this training participants will:

  • Examine strategies for coordinating a multidisciplinary response to child sexual abuse;
  • Examine the culture and mission of participating disciplines involved in a multidisciplinary response to child sexual abuse;
  • Explore how trauma affects children and families which have experienced child sexual abuse;
  • Discuss the case review process; and,
  • Engage in exercises emphasizing the importance of team work;
  • Discuss the concept and philosophy of Children’s Advocacy Centers.

Target Audience:  localities without a formal child abuse MDT are encouraged to apply as a team with at least the following representatives: prosecutor, law enforcement, local department of social services/CPS, and local law enforcement ICAC investigator (if applicable). 5.75 PIC credits for sworn law enforcement have been approved.  MCLE credits pending.
