Buy Less, Sell More: New Roles for Libraries and Librarians Webinar Registration (March 19, 2015)

Please join us for a free hour long ACRL/Choice webinar!

This Webinar will focus on the imperative for libraries to promote the content they purchase or create, and the services they offer.  In an increasingly competitive landscape, users have options for how they find and access needed scholarly information.  Libraries need to become more intentional about attracting and retaining these campus customers, and, toward this end, should seek out strategic partnerships with publishers who are heavily invested in demonstrating the value of their products, as well as the value of their library customers.

 Presenter bios:

  • Mark Sandler is the Director of the Center for Library Initiatives at the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC).  He is interested in how libraries, publishers and users are managing the transition from print to electronic resources, with particular focus on the collaborative efforts of libraries to extend their mission to include content creation.  He was a founder of the Text Creation Partnership, and has worked closely with the Google Books Project and the HathiTrust Digital Library.  In recent years, he has had paid greater attention to the business culture of libraries, including their marketing, sales, and promotional cultures.  This past fall he published an invited op-ed piece in Choice, focusing on what libraries might learn from business practices for customer acquisition (http://www.cro3.org/content/52/02/194.full.pdf).
  • Bob Boissy has been with Springer for 12 years, and is currently Manager of Account Development and Strategic Alliances.  He has previously held positions in library licensing and third part licensing at Springer, and  has held positions in training, client technical support, and data exchange services for a subscription agency.  Bob and has been involved in many standards groups related to serials, and has served as President of the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG).
