Sinai will be commemorating the 76th anniversary of the Kristallnacht with a candle lighting ceremony and a very special presentation by Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger, who will present his book "A German Life: Against All Odds, Change is Possible."
In his book the author describes his struggle growing up in Germany in the shadow of his father, a highly-decorated WWII tank commander and Nazi officer. Dr. Wollschlager eventually converted to Judaism, emigrated to Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces as a Medical Officer.
The candle lighting ceremony will honor Holocaust survivors as well as their children and grandchildren from within our community.
Following Dr. Wollschlaeger's presentation, 8th grade students from Jacobson Sinai Academy will display their Holocaust art projects.
"When my children started asking questions about my parents, I decided to break the wall of silence and tell them the truth about me. I needed to express what compelled me to dramatically change my life. I finally had to explore the relationship with my father and how it was overshadowed by the Holocaust. Our unresolved conflict and his denial motivated me to search for answers, and I found them within me and my acquired faith: Against all odds, change is possible...
This is my story." - Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger.
