PRACTITIONERS
$275 with registration before January 2nd
$300 with registration after January 2nd
$325 at the door

$2,000 Entire course (8 sessions) paid in full by December 12, 2014.

STUDENTS
$225 per session

If paying by check, all checks must by received by our office prior to the program taking place otherwise the at the door rate will apply.

Program Description
This class will emphasize the knowledge and skills necessary for a team physician including medical legal aspects, exercise and fitness concepts, sports psychology, and coaching principles.  

Format
The program content will be presented in both lecture and laboratory format. 

Outline
Hour 1: Definitions and terms of sports medicine

Hour 2: Concepts to enhance sports performance: injury prevention, recognition, assessment, management, education, and counseling. 

Hour 3: Responsibilities of the primary sports medicine team: concepts of the team approach and roles of sports team members 
-Primary and secondary team members: interacting with the team members. 

Hour 4: Ethical and legal standards: ethical principles and legal liability, consent, product liability,                 strategy to prevent litigation. 

Hour 5: Preseason examination: components of the examination
-Sports specific profile: examination format

Hour 6: Special needs athletes: diabetes, cardiovascular disease, epilepsy, asthma, allergy, substance abuse
-Pediatric athlete: Tanner classification, bone age, musculoskeletal vulnerability
-Female athlete: physical considerations, pregnancy, anemia, female triad, disordered eating
-Older athletes: history, physical considerations, laboratory testing, fitness

Hour 7: Concepts of healing: phases of inflammation: chemical reactions, proliferation phase,  remodeling phase, chronic inflammation

Hour 8: Daily adaptive progressive resistance exercise program: implementing a program in the chiropractic office
-Basic components of therapeutic exercise program: flexibility, strength, and muscular endurance, proprioception, and coordination

Hour 9: Psychological considerations: stages of grief, readiness for coaching

Hour 10-12.5: Manual muscle testing of the spine and extremities is reviewed in a practical hands-on workshop
