PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This program is designed to offer insights into how to build a chiropractic practice that focuses on treating athletes of all range and ability. Special attention will focus on both start-up and seasoned practitioners so that students will be able to apply these principles and strategies immediately within their unique practice setting.
FORMAT
The program will be presented in lecture format with some laboratory workshop.
OUTLINE
Hour 1: Introduction on why this course was created and its place within current sports chiropractic programs. See it to achieve it. Case study - HS Volleyball player.
Hour 2: Biomechanics from a developmental perspective. If you know we move the way we move, you don’t have to understand the sport. Case study - Collegiate cross country runner.
Hours 3-5: Assessment workshop: Keeping it simple, assessing key movement patterns. Determining what intervention will give the athlete the most bang for their buck. Kolar seated stability, ALSR, squat test, single squat test, hip abduction test, hip extension test, respiration, overhead reach. Case study - Student workup.
Hours 6-7: Intervention workshop tx of key function limiters, PIR/Active release of the piriformis, psoas, tibialis anterior, soleus, subscapularis. Self Tx of piriformis, psoas, T-4 extension. Self tx with glute medius, hip extension.
Hour 8: Nuances of tx for the professional level athlete vs amateur athlete. Outcome vs Routine. Case study-PGA Tour player
Hour 9: Getting your foot in the door. What to and what not to say. What to charge. What to expect. Working in a multidisciplinary team setting. Case Study - NFL Player
Hour 10: Setting your practice apart. Marketing your practice to separate your practice from the competition
