Program Description
Through this course, you will learn about the diagnosis, treatment and management ofsports related injuries to the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. Concentration is placed on the most common injuries to the upper extremity, proper on/off the field evaluation, physiotherapy modalities, rehabilitation, and appropriate diagnostic imaging.

Format
The program content will be presented in both lecture and laboratory format. 

Outline
Hour 1: Assessment of upper extremity injuries: historical findings and physical examination procedures. 

Hour 2: Biomechanics of the shoulder joint: functional anatomy, glenohumeral motion, force couple, scapula rotation.

Hour 3-4: Impingement Syndrome: history and diagnosis, staging, diagnostic imaging and treatment. 

Hour 5: Bursitis: examination, diagnosis, acute/chronic presentation, adhesive capsulitis, treatment.

Hour 6: Fractures and Dislocations: clavicular, humeral, scapular, acromio-clavicular, gleno-humeral, elbow.

Hour 7: Unstable Shoulder Syndrome: assessments, diagnosis, treatment, return to play.

Hour 8: Throwing injuries: description, mechanisms of injury, components of the pitching mechanism. 

Hour 9: Tennis and swimming injuries: overuse, mechanisms, evaluation, and treatment. 

Hour 10: Wrist and hand injuries: examination procedures, carpal tunnel syndrome, DeQuervains schaphoid Fx, human bite injuries. 

Hour 11: Finger injuries: mallet finger, game keepers thumb, Jersey finger. 

Hour 12-12.5: Peripheral Entrapment Neuropathies: ulna, radial, long thoracic, suprascapular, axillary, musculocutaneous nerves
