2nd Ecotankers conference
Royal Library, Copenhagen, Jan 22, 2015
Keep up to date with the latest thinking about improving environmental performance of tankers

Our second Copenhagen Ecotankers conference, on January 22, 2015, was a way to keep up to date with the latest industry thinking and experience on improving enviromental performance of tankers, and assessing which options provide the best return on investment.

Our speakers from  Thome Ship Management, Lauritzen Kosen and Hafnia Management talked about their own experiences improving vessel efficiency, including the easiest 'wins' and the best ways to automate data gathering and manage the data you collect.

Ballast water treatment – Navigating un-charted waters
Implementation of the IMO and US Coast Guard ballast water management rules poses a great number of challenges to ship owners. This presentation will provide an overview of the legislative status and present the main shipowner options to ensure compliance. In addition the main pitfalls will be discussed.  Watch the video - View the slides

12.15 - What is the best way to improve tanker environmental performance?
Panel discussion with morning speakers, joined by Jogvan Joanesarson, general manager marine projects, Nordic Tankers  Watch the video

Jogvan is currently working on evaluations and follow ups to the conversion to marine gas oil operation for ships running in SECA areas – and is very involved of the challenges of ships going into MGO operation, and for those which run in and out of SECA

  • Improved environmental performance- scrubbers versus low sulphur fuel oil versus marine gas oil
  • Technologies for reducing fuel costs- are they as relevant today due to the fuel price dropping by 25-30%?
  • Operational challenges when operating Eco tankers
  • Eco design- What is the next step? Gaps and problems identified in Eco designs
  • Problems with retrofitting a tanker fleet with Ballast Water Systems
  • Vessel's performance integrated systems versus the manual approach- How do you analyse the data and how much data do you need to operate a tanker efficiently?

12.45 - Lunch
