The Family Perspective:
Clinical and Group Services
for Parents Who Have Young Children with Special Needs

featuring guest speaker:

JUDY GROSSMAN, DRPH, OTR

Early intervention programs for infants and toddlers are mandated to be family-centered, yet services are primarily child-focused. Best practices should honor the family’s voice and recognize the cumulative challenges they experience raising a child with special needs. Dr. Grossman will describe a family resilience framework to guide practice, and recurring themes that are the basis of a Parent Discussion Group protocol that addresses family relationships, family life and the social-emotional needs of parents.

Judy Grossman, DrPH, OTR, is the Associate Director of the Center for the Developing Child & Family and Director of the Resilient Families: Children with Special Needs Project at the Ackerman Institute for the Family. She is a family therapist, occupational therapy and public
health educator, researcher and consultant to community agencies
and schools.
