ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Over the past decade, NW Tribes have experienced the direct impacts climate change has had on fish, wildlife, forests, rivers, oceans, and tribal lands. Tribes must proactively begin addressing these impacts and develop adaptation strategies. Many Tribes are developing their internal technical, legal, and policy capacity to comprehensively address climate change impacts. Further, NW Tribes must also collectively begin addressing regional Tribal energy and carbon emissions policy.

In October, 2013 the states of California, Washington, Oregon, and the British Columbia province signed the Pacific Coast Action Plan on Climate Change and Energy (http://www.pacificcoastcollaborative.org). The states/province plan was developed with limited input from NW Tribal governments or First Nations. At the September 2014 Annual ATNI Convention in Pendleton, the ATNI Executive Committee discussed the importance and need for ATNI member Tribes to collectively discuss and strategize on developing a NW Tribal Action Plan on Climate Change. Tribal Councils and policy leaders are requested to attend the ATNI Tribal Leaders Summit on Climate Change.
