 Filtering Wireless Signals:
A Critical Technology for Smartphones

Our January Presentation: With the deployment of 4G/LTE wireless networks, wireless frequency bands are proliferating all over the globe. This is placing increasing demands on the filtering requirements within mobile devices, in addition to the number (and hence size) of the filters themselves. Two technologies are currently used that provide sufficient performance in a compact footprint: Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) and Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) technology.

This talk will provide an overview of the filter technology used in mobile phones, the advances and challenges required to keep pace with the increasing demands for filtering, as well as the overall front-end architecture of modern smartphones.

Our Speaker: Dr. Mike Eddy joined Resonant in 2014 as Vice President of Marketing. From 2004 to 2012, Dr. Eddy served as President of ANTONE Wireless, a company he founded and which he grew to become a leader in the 4G network infrastructure enhancement products market prior to its sale to Westell Technologies, Inc. in 2012. Following the sale of ANTONE Wireless to Westell, Dr. Eddy served as Vice President, Cell Site Optimization Products at Westell from 2012 to 2014. Earlier in his career, Dr. Eddy held several senior management positions at Superconductor Technologies including, Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Marketing, and Vice President of Business Development. Dr. Eddy earned his Ph.D. in Solid State Chemistry from Oxford University and his Masters in Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
