PARCC Preview for Community Schools & Partner Organizations

Over the past several years much attention has been on how schools transition to the Common Core State
Standards. In the spring of 2015, the "rubber will the meet the road" as, for the first time, students will take the PARCC - the new standards-aligned assessment.  The PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of
Readiness for College & Careers) measures skills that colleges value, particularly critical thinking and problem solving and is structured quite differently than other assessments most students have taken.

There is no doubt that school leaders, teachers, and parents are anxious about how students will fare on the
PARCC, making it ever more important that organizations working in schools understand what the PARCC is and how it will affect students, teachers, and schools.

Join us on Thursday, January 15 from 10:00-11:30am for a PARCC orientation designed to provide
partner organizations with a basic understanding of PARCC and how to support student achievement.

The session will include:

  • The PARCC difference - what's different from other tests, what that means for every classroom
  • PARCC Preview: Sample questions in math and reading
  • What schools will need to connect extended day with PARCC priorities
  • How to orient parents to PARCC and ways they can help their children meet the challenge

Participants will gain insights  and resources for student activities and parent workshops.
