Jacob Kaplan lives an ordinary life in Uruguay.  Like many of his Jewish friends, he fled Europe for South America during World War II.  But now, turning 76 and taking stock, he is fed up with his humdrum life, ailing health, and family's lack of interest in its own heritage.  An unexpected opportunity for salvation comes along in the form of a quiet, elderly German beach bar owner, whom Mr. Kaplan believes to be a Nazi war criminal.  Determined to capture this Nazi, as Eichmann was captured before him, Mr. Kaplan surprises everyone when he takes up this challenge.  A wry, black comedy.

The Green Prince - TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR!

Saturday, January 17 2015, 7:30 PM at St. John's High School

The Green Prince is such an extraordinary story that one is tempted to think it is fiction, if only somebody had the audacity to invent it.  The Green Prince recounts the true story of Mosab Hasan Yousef - son of a Hamas leader, who emerged as one of Israel's prized informants - and the Shin Bet agent who risked his career to protect him.  What started as a cautious alliance between spy and handler, grew into an enduring friendship that no one could have predicted.  Spying on the Hamas elite for over a decade, Yousef constantly risked certain death.  Based on his bestselling memoir, Son of Hamas, The Green Prince exposes a tangled web of terror, betrayal, and impossible choices.  Opening night film, San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, 2014.

Director:  Nadav Schirman.  Israel 2014, 99 minutes.  Hebrew with English subtitles.
