The Myths and Realities of Starting a Nonprofit Organization

This workshop will explain the myths and realities on starting a nonprofit organization. The workshop will cover the legal requirements of filing for tax exempt status and will focus on the steps a new nonprofit can take to create a successful organization. You will learn:

  • What are the federal and state requirements for creating a nonprofit organization
  • How to get started in planning and launching a new nonprofit
  • How to set up a basic administrative platform for your nonprofit
  • Local resources available to help nonprofits

Cynthia Russell is Principal of CrossSection Partners, a consulting firm that helps nonprofits with fund development planning, operational improvements, and strategies for growth.

Maurice K. Segall is Director of the New York and Fairfield County, CT, Program for Pro Bono Partnership. Pro Bono Partnership provides direct legal services to nonprofit groups and provides educational resources to help new nonprofits.
