Dr. Loonsk has had leadership roles in government, clinical and now private sector health information technology. Before joining CGI, he held the position of Director of  Interoperability and Standards in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). In this role, Dr. Loonsk led the architecture of the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) and advanced the interoperability processes of the American Health Information Community (AHIC). The latter work included developing the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) and advancing the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology.

Dr. Loonsk is a Fellow in the College of the American College of Medical Informatics. He is also a
member of the American Medical Informatics Association, the AmericanPublic Health Association, the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems and the Health Information and Management Systems Society. He received his medical training at the State University of New York at Buffalo after graduating from the Johns Hopkins University.
