3-Day Scientific Management Training Course(SMT850)
Course Description
Training Scientists as Managers. At FAES, we understand that many science professionals, while extremely prepared in their scientific disciplines, may have had little experience or education in business management. We understand that preparation to become a laboratory manager or scientific director is oftentimes neglected in scientific training programs. Therefore, to bridge the gap between science and business, this course will train new and experienced scientists in the core supervisory and management competencies necessary to become an effective supervisor or manager.
Course Outline:
Day I: MANAGING PEOPLE
• Employment Law Compliance for New Supervisors & Managers
• Techniques for Effective Interviewing and Selection of Staff
• Staff/Employee Relations 101 (coaching, counseling, disciplining, and documenting employee behavior)
• Performance Management: The Human side Performance Appraisals
Day II: THE ART OF SUPERVISION
• Making the Transition from Individual Contributor to Supervisor
• Core Functions of Management and How they Relate to Business Success
• Strategies for Effective Teamwork (communication skills development, conflict
• Resolution techniques, effective delegation strategies, and creative problem- solving)
Day III: SELF-MANAGEMENT AND PERSONAL MASTERY
• Developing your Emotional Intelligence
• Coping with Organizational Change
• Managing Interpersonal and Client Relationships
