Teaching Sexual Health Education to Students with Special Needs (Teacher Training) 6.23.15 

Sexual health education is an important topic to be taught to all students, regardless of ability level. This training will focus on providing sexual health education to students with special needs. Topics covered in this training include; importance of providing sexual health education to students with special needs, myths and facts about students and sexuality, teaching topics, how to structure a sexual health class, values clarification, answering sensitive questions, available curricula and resources. This overview training will provide teachers with foundational methods of teaching sexual health to students they work with. This training is geared toward teachers of students with special needs in 4th-12th grade.

Training fee: $25
Lunch and materials will be included in this training.

Facilitator: Bobbie Jo Sheridan, LBSW
Bobbie Jo Sheridan is the Training and Education Coordinator for EyesOpenIowa. She has provided prevention services for more than six years to various populations. In her work Bobbie Jo focuses on topics such as puberty, contraception, STD and HIV prevention and inclusivity. Bobbie Jo graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.S. in Social Work and is currently pursuing a Master's of Science in Health Education and Promotion from Walden University. Bobbie Jo also holds her social work license in the state of Iowa.

Training Location: EyesOpenIowa, 4000 Westown Parkway, Ste #204, West Des Moines, Iowa. EyesOpenIowa is located in the Independent Insurance Building.
