Summary:
This one-day workshop explores the purpose of preaching and the processes of planning, exegesis, sermon development and delivery that are necessary for relevant and passionate preaching. Participants will prepare with advance reading and by writing a sermon for presentation during the day.
Its learning objectives are to:
- Identify the purpose not only for specific sermons but also for your practice of preaching
- Explore ways of sermon preparation that work with your life and pastoral ministry
- Develop a preaching plan
- Learn approaches to Scriptural exegesis that are true to the text and relevant to today
- Discover best practices for communicating in a multimedia culture
- Put your “delete” key or eraser to good use
- Find the right balance in your preaching
- Dealing with controversial issues
The goals for this training are:
- Sound hints for solid sermons.
- Lively and engaging discussion
- Interactive Conversations
- Feedback to and from your peers about your practice of preaching
- Constructive challenges to common practices of preaching.
Required Textbook
Hamilton, Adam, Unleashing the Word: Preaching with Relevance, Purpose and Passion (Abingdon Press, 2003).
COST: $50 per participant regardless of conference affiliation.
Lunch, snacks and beverages will be supplied.
