Target Audience/Prerequisites
This course is intended for nurses and public health staff who are actively engaged in the identification, case management, and treatment of patients with tuberculosis infection or disease.

Format
Live event presented in a lecture format with interactive discussions.

Program Description
The goal of this course is to provide an indepth training experience covering the knowledge and skills essential for the nurse or (LVN, BSN) acting as an RN with primary responsibility for TB case management. The workshop will go beyond the basic TB curriculum and enhance the participant’s ability to be accountable for all facets of case management.

Conference Objectives
Upon course completion, participants will be able to competently practice TB case management including: describe current epidemiology of TB; diagnose and manage TB infection and TB disease; monitor response to treatment; perform drug toxicity assessments; describe current laboratory methods, common IGRA tests, and basic TB radiology; diagnose and manage TB in pediatric patients; describe the steps to a contact investigation; assess the nutritional needs of TB patients; describe infection control measures to prevent the spread of TB; discuss how to increase patient adherence through the use of DOT and enablers; discuss collaboration with private providers; identify psychosocial factors that affect TB treatment; recognize foreign born populations as a high risk group and discuss barriers and special considerations in dealing with these groups.
