Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin L. Crump, who represented the families of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, will be the Keynote speaker at the Inaugural Louisville Black Lawyers Association Awards Dinner. The March 5, 2015 event will honor those in the legal community who have a history of distinguished legal service and who have exhibited a commitment to diversity within the legal field. The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award will be Raymond M. Burse, President of Kentucky State University, who made national news when he reduced his own salary so that the university could increase the salary of its lowest paid workers. Additional honorees include Angela L. Edwards a Partner at the law firm of Dinsmore Shohl, LLP and President of the Louisville Bar Association, Dawn R. Elliott an attorney for the Fauver Law Office and the Office of Mike O'Connell, Jefferson County Attorney. The event is open to the public.
