About the Theme

1979 was the year that Elva Gonzalez began working at the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center. At that time HCWC didn't even have our first shelter. Elva worked in the office as a part-time bookkeeper. When the shelter opened in 1980, it was a small house, and Elva lived and worked there. Over the years, HCWC has changed, but one thing has remained: Elva's commitment to helping victims of abuse to be safe and heal themselves and their families. Elva continues to serve at the Center, overseeing several departments in her role as the Director of Programs and Services. No matter what you were doing or where you were in 1979 (or even if you weren't yet born), take a stroll with us for an unforgettable evening.
