Your company staff is your greatest asset that makes your business unique. But staff can also be your greatest liability when it comes to causing data breaches. Meanwhile, your technical staff need hands-on, advanced security skills to keep with the bad guys. Equally important, every family needs to understand their role in Internet safety, and most staff are more open to discussing security when it impacts their personal lives.

Cyber awareness and training will be explored from a variety of perspectives – what you need to know and how to get your message across to different audiences. This case study will examine what works and what doesn’t, when it comes to security awareness training, Michigan’s advanced Cyber Range offerings, and the outreach efforts that made Michigan government a national model for security training. You’ll learn how to provide interactive, engaging training that makes your end-user into a true security partner and have fun in the process.

   Dan Lohrmann is an internationally recognized cybersecurity leader, technologist and author. During hisdistinguished career, Dan has served global organizations in the public and private sectors in a variety of executive leadership capacities, receiving numerous national awards including CSO of the Year, Public Official of the Year, and Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader. He has more than 29 years of experience in the computer industry, beginning with the National Security Agency (NSA).

 Currently Mr. Lohrmann is the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and Chief Strategist for Security Mentor, Inc. In these roles he is leading the development and implementation of Security Mentor’s industry-leading cyber training, consulting, and workshops for end users, managers, and executives in the public and private sectors. Previously Dan led Michigan government’s cybersecurity and technology infrastructure teams from May, 2002 through August, 2014, in the roles of enterprise-wide Chief Security Officer (CSO), Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).

Lohrmann also has extensive advising experience, instructing senior leaders at the White House, National Governor’s Association (NGA), National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), federal, state and local government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, small businesses and non-profit institutions. He currently serves on advisory boards on cybersecurity or Information Assurance (IA) programs at four universities.

Dan is a globally recognized conference speaker on many ICT and cybersecurity topics, with keynote presentations given on several continents. He has appeared on CSPAN, national and regional radio programs, technology/security global webcasts, and evening news programs. Dan is also a writer and columnist, contributing to publications such as Government Technology Magazine, Public CIO Magazine, CSO Magazine, and Computerworld. He has authored two books - "Virtual Integrity: Faithfully Navigating the Brave New Web" and "BYOD For You: The Guide to Bring Your Own Device to Work."

Mr. Lohrmann holds a Master's Degree in Computer Science (CS) from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a Bachelor's Degree in CS from Valparaiso University, Indiana.
