Conference Cancellation Policy - Withdraw from the Spring CPD Conference with full refund less a $75 processing fee provided OSPE is notified in writing no later than Thurs., June 4, 5:00 p.m. After that time, registrants are responsible for the full registration fee.

* Legislative Lunch Registration - Separate registration is required for Friday’s Legislative Lunch hosted by the OSPE Political Action Committee. Call 614-223-1144 to register.

CPD Hours - The Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors does not pre-approve CPD courses nor course-providers. However, OSPE programs are designed to meet Ohio law and State Board of Registration rules. The Spring CPD Conference meets continuing professional development (CPD) requirements in many states. There are 12.0 CPD hours associated with this program, plus a bonus 0.5 CPD hour for those registering to attend the Legislative Luncheon on Friday. Professionals should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Sign on-site attendance sheets so your attendance may be verified in case of State audit.

Contributions, Gifts, Dues & Fees to the OSPE are not tax deductible as charitable contributions. However, they may be tax deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses. Please consult your tax advisor. Associate membership includes OSPE and chapter membership. Your dues deductibility is 28%.

Streetcar Engineering: Managing the Push & Pull from Many Directions
Participants will learn factors involved in route design, balancing engineering and other criteria; performance specification for streetcar procurement; and the engineer’s role in streetcar operations. John Deatrick, PE, LEED AP, serves as project executive of the Cincinnati Streetcar Project.

I-75 Mill Creek Expressway Projects

Operation of the Office of County Engineer
Participants will learn a system overview; revenues, expenditures and funding sources; cost-saving measures and capital improvements. Ted Hubbard, PE, PS, has been Hamilton County Engineer since 2012. Greg Wilkens, PE, PS, has served as the Butler County Engineer since 2001.

Advocating Thoughtful Use & Preservation of Local Hillsides
Participants will learn how the Hillside Trust consults with municipalities and government planning commissions regarding land use regulations that pertain to hillside development and preservation, and why The Hillside Trust is relevant to local planning. Eric Russo is executive director of The Hillside Trust.

Permanent Canal Closure Pumpstation
The Permanent Canal Closure and Pump Stations (PCCP) project is the last major construction project to complete the post-Katrina levee reconstruction program in the New Orleans area. It is a $615 million design/build contract and completion is expected in 2017. Participants will learn about the USACE-led flood mitigation efforts, the PCCP pump stations project and the design/build process. Mark Willis, PE, is a principal and project manager for Stantec in Lexington, KY.

Workplace Culture: Why It Matters & How It Affects Performance
Participants will learn why workplace culture is important, how workplace culture affects productivity and performance and how we can influence our culture by focusing on our behaviors. James Kleingers, PE, PS, LEED AP, owns and operates The Kleingers Group, a professional civil engineering, surveying, landscape architecture and planning firm specializing in public works and private development.

Engineers, Sustainability for Buildings & LEED
Participants will learn the importance of sustainable design and operation practices for commercial buildings, the purpose of the LEED system, its process for development and its future, tools that align with the goals of LEED and the impact of all tools on the market place and the roles engineers play in the effort to make buildings more sustainable. Tom Kennedy, PE, LEED AP, is on the executive board of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Cincinnati Regional Chapter.

Succession Planning for Collection Systems
Learn about mitigating the negative effects of staff attrition. Participants will learn the importance of developing integrated personnel and equipment management plans, the value of productivity metrics and the benefits of strategic hiring/promotions, and how to develop an optimal mix of internal and external resources. Rich McGillis is the collection systems director for SD1, the company that manages Northern Kentucky’s wastewater and stormwater. Jim Turner, PE, is a senior water resources engineer with Coldwater Consulting, the company that assisted SD1 with a succession planning project.

Radial Shaft Seals: Design, Theory, Selection and Installation
Radial shaft seals are almost everywhere. Learn about advances in design and materials of these important components on which most industries depend. Participants will learn molding methods, radial shaft seal terminology, how it’s made and how it works, installation methods/storage, profile selection and characteristics and engineering capabilities. Andrew Rommann, a mechanical engineering graduate, is the lead product development engineer at ESP International.
