Career Development Session with Daniel Banks

Next Steps - What Are My Choices?

Daniel Banks

Daniel Banks is a faculty member of the M.A. in Applied Theatre and co-founder of DNAWORKS, a company dedicated to dialogue and healing through the arts. See www.dnaworks.org.

Daniel will lead a day-long workshop on “creating a sustainable lifestyle in the arts.” What are your short and long-term goals now that you have a degree in Applied Theatre? How do you talk about what you do and what your commitments are in the world? How do you structure the business side of your work as an artist? What is the Social Entrepreneurship model and how can it help?

In this workshop, participants can explore questions they have about creating their own organizations and businesses.  The first half of the day will be spent looking at visioning and languaging, including writing your own vision and mission statements as artists.  Questions considered will include: What are your needs, including self-care? What are the business models that will help you achieve them?

After lunch, participants will have a chance to work with a backwards planning model to: 1) create a structure around their desired goals; 2) actualize the use of “team” in their projects; and 3) have daily commitments towards the achievement of their goals.  We will also hold a “clinic” session where participants can contribute to each other’s plans and goals.

Participants will leave with a model for “inevitable success” – at least one year of planning to attain the lifestyle in the arts they desire.
