The State of California invites you to attend a February 3, 2015 public workshop in Bakersfield to provide input on an independent study of the potential environmental and health impacts of well stimulation treatments, including hydraulic fracturing, in California.

Public Workshop Information
Date: Tuesday, February 3, 2015
Time: 6:00-8:00 PM PST
Location: California State University, Bakersfield, Student Union/Multipurpose Room,
9001 Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield, CA 93311.

Pursuant to Senate Bill 4 (Pavley, Statutes of 2013), the California Natural Resources Agency has commissioned the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, with the participation of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, to conduct an independent scientific assessment of well stimulation.  The study will focus on the potential impacts on the environment and contain case studies with evaluations of environmental issues and public health risks. Attendees at the workshop will have a chance to learn more about the scientific assessment and provide input to the scientists who are working on the study, scheduled for release in July 2015.

Additional information on the study is available at http://www.ccst.us/projects/hydraulic_fracturing_public/SB4.php.  This link also provides access to an overview of the study, called Volume I, which was released on January 14, 2015.  The overview discusses how well stimulation treatments are generally conducted in California in the production of oil and gas.

Parking Information and Campus Map

Workshop attendees may park free of charge in Lots L, K1 and K2.  Attendees will not need to purchase parking for these lots.  Maps of the campus are available at http://www.csub.edu/CampusMap/index.shtml.  (Lots K1 and K2 are not identified on these maps, but they are located on the east side of Don Hart Drive East and the north side of Kroll Way near the Student Union building.)
