Gather with families and neighbors from across your community at The Table: Sharing Food & Stories from Bhutan, an evening to meet new friends, try new foods and learn about the rich cultural heritage of Bhutan from people right here in Iowa.

Since 2008, more than 1,200 members of the Bhutanese community have resettled to Iowa from refugee camps in Nepal. Forced to flee their homes in Bhutan in the 1990’s, these families have been granted refugee status in the United States and have built new homes in Iowa with hopes of leading successful lives, free from violence and persecution. Join us at The Table to hear stories from members of the Bhutanese Community in Iowa and partners of LSI’s Refugee Community Services, who will share about Bhutan’s history and how resettled Bhutanese families are overcoming challenges—such as language barriers and access to education, employment, housing and transportation—to realize their dreams and goals in a new home.
