Songs from Broadway to Hollywood (and everything in-between)

Fans of Broadway show tunes and  hit Hollywood movie songs wil be given a treat on March 7th when the United Churches of Langley present "Songs from Broadway to Hollywood (and everything in between!) featuring vocalist Calla Krause and pianist/vocalist Perry Dickison. Both Calla and Perry are accomplished performers in their own right, and they will be joining forces for this special event  to present a showcase of some of their favourite popular songs from the 1930s to the present day. The concert will be followed by a "Delectable Dessert" reception.

From London, England to Toronto, Ontario to Langley, BC, Calla Krause's musical career has covered everything from musical theatre to 20th Century music productions (and virtually everything else in between!). While living in Toronto, Calla was part of the cast of "Mikado", which was followed by a lengthy tour that included performing in New York on Broadway. She was also a performer at the Stratford Festival for two seasons, and has been cast in various other musical theatre productions including the original Canadian cast of Les Miserables. After her 750th performance fo Les Miserables, she left theatre to attend law school at Dalhousie University. Calla then moved to Vancouver to be closer to her family and later became the co-owner of a meat brokerage and trading company. During her professional career, her love of music has held strong, and she has continued to perform in shows such as the Weill women showcase of Kurt Weill music, as well as her own one-woman Broadway show. On March 7th, Calla is thrilled to share some of the music that has shaped her life.

Joining Calla in concert will be veteran performer and recording artist Perry Dickison. Perry has been a featured perfomer in the Lobby Lounge of the Shangri-La Hotel in Vancouver since the hotel opened in 2009. He performs on the Fazioli grand piano there every Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. Perry also serves as the Music Director at Cliff Avenue United Church in Burnaby, and is a proud member of the award-winning Phoenix Chamber Choir. A former Richmond high school music teacher, Perry launched his performing career in 1990 as a solo pianist/vocalist with Crystal Cruises, a move which took him around the world. Since then, he has been a featured soloist with a number of orchestras, and has recorded and produced three solo albums which feature contemporary songs, inspirational music, and pop standards. A captivating performer, Perry's beautiful voice, outstanding musicianship, and charm beguile his audience instantly wherever he goes. More information on Perry is available at www.perrydickison.com

Also starring in the show will be the United Churches of Langley's new Sauter grand piano. The church acquired this designer grand piano in May 2013 and celebrated the acquistion through their "Songs and Celebrations" concert series, which featured world-renowned pianist Ian Park. The Songs of Broadway concert will be another demonstration of the United Churches of Langley's commitment to providing their community with high-quality, entertaining events for the whole family.
