Presented by Leah Claire Bennett, PhD and Sally Moody, LCSW

Target Audience:

Professional clinicians in the mental health and addiction field who are counselors, social workers, psychiatrist, psychologist, and therapists.

About this workshop:

This workshop will focus on issues of professionalism, boundaries, ethics, and social media. A focus will be given to ethical standards, the benefits of boundaries, boundary violations, and guarding against boundary crossings and violations.   Participants will be challenged to consider their own practices of professionalism.  Participants will be educated on social media sites and how the increasing popularity of social media has impacted communication. Professional Code of Ethics for different specialties and their connection with social media will be discussed.

This workshop will enhance understanding of social media outlets, the professional’s on-line presence and explore personal and professional use of social media sites. Those attending will participate in discussions meant to encourage everyone to “raise the bar” with their professionalism and encounters with clients, both in person and on-line.  Group discussion and case examples will be used to further demonstrate ethical dilemmas that are raised with professionalism and social media.

Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify and discuss professionalism, ethics, and boundaries.
  • Participants will be able to discuss implications of social media in the realm of communication, ethics, and professional boundaries.
  • Participants will be able to list ways in which they can enhance their professionalism with social media.
  • Participants will be able to use concepts to apply to case examples of professionalism and boundaries.
