If you enjoy gardening, learning new hobbies, and helping the environment then backyard beekeeping is for you. Even apartment dwellers can raise honeybees.
There is no better time to get involved with this practical and beneficial hobby than now with these essential little pollinators in crisis.
The class will be taught by Cliff Peterson and Brian Johnson with the Central Washington Beekeepers Association and is designed for those new to beekeeping or wishing to brush up on the basics. Major topics covered include physiology of honey bees, bee behavior, the role of honey bees in plant pollination, seasonal tasks, hive assembly and management, tools and equipment, and coping with common problems.
Weather permitting, the class also includes a visit to the Arboretum's apiary (bee hives) so wear walking shoes.
