Peter Rondorf is Minister and Head of the Economic Department of the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. As such, he oversees a broad range of policy areas, including economics, finance, industry, trade, investment, energy, environment, climate change, science & technology, labor, health, transport and agriculture. His office represents German interests in the United States and reports to the German government on developments in the USA.
Peter Rondorf entered the German Foreign Service in 1982. Before his current posting to Washington, D.C., Minister Rondorf served as Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the German Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, which followed his posting as Minister and Head of the Economic Department of the German Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. From 2004-2007, he was Head of Section in the European Directorate-General of the Foreign Office, responsible for EU enlargement, European Neighborhood Policy, relations with the Western Balkans, and policy issues concerning EU foreign relations. This followed his posting as Director of the German Liaison Office in Pristina, Kosovo.
Minister Rondorf's early diplomatic career included senior-level postings as the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy in Riga, Latvia; and Head of Economics at the Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. Additionally, he held numerous positions in the German Foreign Office. Following his military service in the Bundeswehr, which left with rank of Reserve Second Lieutenant, Peter Rondorf studied economics and political science at the University of Bonn. Before entering the Foreign Service, he was a research fellow on the staff of the German Council of Economic Experts.
