Why is this year's Government Affairs Lobby Day so important?
CLDA has been actively defending against two harmful bills in the U.S. Senate that would drastically limit the ability of independent contractors to continue to operate. In protecting the right of the IC business model, CLDA even testified in a U.S. Senate hearing in November of 2013.
CLDA is also in the process of re-introducing federal legislation to protect the Section 530 safe harbor and to establish clear criteria which will be used to determine independent contractor status. We have been in contact with other industry associations over the last several months working to build an active coalition and to help push national tax reform. We need your help to inform your elected officials that this legislation is necessary and to ask them to sign-on as cosponsors.
Similar to previous years, the 2015 CLDA Government Affairs Lobby Day will include a morning session featuring key Congressional and Washington insiders. CLDA has arranged an impressive array of speakers and educational content for previous Lobby Days, including the following members of Congress: Dave Reichert (R-WA), Tom Price (R-GA), Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Jim Barrow (D-GA).
What Should I Expect?
Lobby Day contains time in the afternoon on the 10th of June and during the day of the 11th of June for CLDA members, along with a CLDA lobbyist, to meet with their federal elected representatives. CLDA schedules all Capitol Hill meetings and provides each congressional office with background information on our industry. CLDA has typically scheduled well over 100 meetings each year. This is the highlight of the event for many members and countless valuable contacts have been made through this process.
