March 2015 Luncheon Meeting

Social Security: Advanced Planning for Financial Planners

Speaker:    Sharon Lacy, CFP®

Meeting Description

Social Security planning is complex and requires more than just a basic understanding of the rules.  After a brief review of the basics we will learn how to use a Social Security optimizing tool to identify and test possible client filing strategies. Armed with this skill we will use case studies to practice on a variety of advanced client situations.  Assuming that we will often want to recommend delay, we will discuss two compelling arguments for delay.  Finally, we discuss how the decision to strike down DOMA Part 3 makes all that we have learned applicable to same-sex couples.

Level of Complexity:  Intermediate

Learning Objective:  Learning Social Security planning strategy for family and understanding the intricacy of the best planning options for clients.

1.5 hours CE has been granted for this session by the CFP Board.
