February Instructional Design Meet-Up: Field Trip with an Avatar!

You are invited to attend the next ID Meet-Up on Friday, February 27th from 11:30-1:30pm at the AT&T Center, 11th Floor, Classroom C. Please RSVP by Tuesday, February 24th at 12:00pm.  Lunch will be provided.

Take a field trip to meet and interact with an avatar demonstrating Motivational Interviewing, a technique for eliciting information and changing client behavior.  Luci Ursich, instructional designer for the USC School of Social Work, Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families, will describe, demonstrate, and briefly have attendees interact with their MILES platform (Motivational Interviewing Learning Environment Simulation).  The platform is an avatar that represents a National Guardsman, Mike Baker, in a session with a social worker. Working through a series of prompts from Mike Baker, the student chooses from a set of responses demonstrating best use of Motivational Interviewing.  Attendees will also take a brief look at some training videos used to stimulate discussion regarding problems of military-affiliated clients (active duty, veterans, and families). 

*This event starts at 12:00pm, but you will need to depart the UPC campus at 11:30am to arrive and check-in on time*

Transportation Options: It is highly recommended you take the FREE USC AT&T shuttle bus departing the UPC campus from the Alumni House promptly at 11:30am.  There is a 1:40pm return shuttle bus departing from the AT&T building.  For additional bus times, visit USC Transportation. Otherwise, parking is available in surface lots ($10/day), the AT&T building ($17/day), or at a few meters ($1/hr.).  By metro, exit the Expo Line at the Pico Station, walk up to 12th Street and turn right, continue 3 blocks to Olive, and the AT&T Center will be on your left.

Secure Check-In Process: A photo ID is required to enter the AT&T Center.  Upon arrival, present your photo ID to the front desk in the lobby, and you will be issued a paper badge.  Security personnel will escort you to the 11th Floor.  Should you encounter any difficulties with check-in, please contact Luci Ursich at 310-614-7108.
