Level I-II training: Foundations and Basic Applications -
The HANDLE® Approach to Neurodevelopmental Differences
March 7-8, 2015
Saturday and Sunday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
HANDLE® was developed by Judith Bluestone, an award-winning educator and pioneer in applied neuroscience. It offers a paradigm that sees behaviors as communication, which provides a unique perspective for gaining insights and increasing compassionate understanding. Founded on an interactive, developmental model of human functioning, HANDLE directly addresses underlying neurodevelopmental irregularities, rather than simply providing short-term solutions.
HANDLE draws upon knowledge from many different disciplines and provides families, caregivers, educators and therapists a gentle, effective, holistic and non-drug solution to challenging conditions and perplexing situations.
“I am seriously impressed. This work touches the nerve of virtually everything taking place in our current cultural crisis of childhood.”
- Joseph Chilton Pearce, author: Magical Child, & other books
Level I & II (2 days) - Foundations and Basic Applications of HANDLE This intensive course lays the foundations of the HANDLE principles and then builds upon and applies this knowledge through Applications of HANDLE as it can be applied to a variety of life challenges. Participants will follow the process through which Judith went to develop her theories on neurodevelopment and begin to see behaviors as communication with new “HANDLE eyes.” Individual sensory systems are looked at as a way to understand sensitivities and attentional issues. Students will learn unique HANDLE activities and will explore how the activities can be applied and adapted to support individuals with a wide range of sensitivities and challenges.
In thiscourse you will:
Discover why Judith Bluestone, founder of The HANDLE Institute, proposed that autism is an extreme anxiety disorder.
Explore the connection between hypersensitivities and gastro-intestinal, immunological, endocrinological, psychological and neurological complications.
Understand how ADHD, Autism etc. are systems disorders requiring a systems approach to treatment (based on understanding of the connections and interactions between aspects of the neurological system).
Recognize subtle signs of stress, learn to adapt to avoid crisis.
Learn selected HANDLE activities that can be immediately applied in classroom, home and clinic settings.
This course is not designed to diagnose or treat any specific person or condition, rather give additional ideas and suggestions that may prove helpful to someone seeking insights for themself, or their work as a parent, care-giver or therapist.
Level I and II courses do not qualify an individual in training others in HANDLE activities.

“We were all really excited to see S. suddenly so ‘wired up’ about communicating. It's like he couldn't get the words out fast enough. Please tell your colleagues that one of your workshop attendees had some excitement just from two days of face tapping. Thanks!” – Lisa L., mother of teen with autism
