Maria Quintero, Ph.D.
Dr. Maria Quintero is the Assistant Deputy Director for Provider Services in the Intellectual Disabilities division of MHMRA of Harris County. She brings her 30+ years of experience in developmental disabilities and program development for persons with severe behavior problems to Avondale House on Thursday, April 23. During this noon lunch hour presentation, Dr. Quintero will help parents and caregivers of children and young adults with autism navigate through and prepare for the post-school transition. Please join us with your questions about the types of government assistance and supported employment opportunities for individuals on the spectrum as they age. Lunch provided.

This two-part program has been created by professionals from Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital for parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Learn simple techniques that lower stress, anxiety and depression.

Carol Redel, M.D.
Pediatric Gastroenterologist for the Texas Children’s Hospital Autism Team, Dr. Carol Redel speaks at Avondale House on Thursday, April 30 during the noon lunch hour.  Dr. Redel will help to dispel the myths regarding nutrition for individuals on the spectrum. Drawing from her 29 years of practice, publications including “Autism and the Gut,” and current research of intestinal bacteria in autism and GI disorders, Dr. Redel will provide sound, factual dietary advice for parents, care-givers and health educators. Lunch provided.
