SOMeCA Summit: RE-IMAGINING LEADERSHIP 

This year we are going a step beyond our  SOMeCA "Dinner with Alumni". 
Be ready for inspiring speakers, purposeful and stimulating workshops  and talented performers! 

 

STUDENTS- Once you have registered for the summit, return to this page and click on the links below to select your Session I and Session II workshops. Please register for one workshop in each session. You can only attend one workshop per session so please choose wisely. 

It is important and required that if you choose to attend the summit that you are commiting to participating for the entire summit (9:30-5pm).

Workshop Session I – 10:45am (Select One)

 Everyday Mindfulness & Meditation - Kimi Mojica (Registration is full. Please select one of the remaining open workshops)

  • Meditation can have a powerful impact on how we show up in the world, lead, and engage our communities. Learn practices that support personal and collective liberation.  

 Gender Roles - Joshua Fisher, Amanda Wake

  • How do traditional views of gender roles inform and inhibit our ability to organize? How do we identify, address, and challenge ourselves and each other in our organizations?

“Live Long & Prosper” - Angel Martinez, Kat Canales-Molina

  • Come learn and share practices for sustainable physical health and nutrition.

Sustaining Your Organization - Tiffany Dena Loftin 

  • How to mentor and engage your members to inspire new leaders.

The Art of Facilitation: Niketa Calame

  • Improv is great practice for responding creatively and thinking on your feet. Come play and learn!

 

Workshop Session II – 1:15pm (Select One)

Collaborative Communication - Edison Jensen

  • Collaboration is built on key skills of listening and understanding. Learn best practices for communicating in a way that sustains a healthy environment for yourself and others.

How the hell do we work together?- Darrick Smith (Registration is full. Please select one of the remaining open workshops)

  • Bring your questions to this dialogue about how we can we build relations that are open, present, respectful, purposeful, and lasting.

 Identifying “Poisons” - Eden Jequinto, Amanda Wake (Registration is full. Please select one of the remaining open workshops)

  • Society perpetuates poisons like egoism and greed that get in the way of our happiness and ability to be effective student organizers. Learn to identify poisons and apply antidotes.

Purposeful Life - Leisette Rodriguez 

  • You can live the life you want. Challenge yourself and challenge the world every day of your life.
