Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts 

To administer the AMZNart Project, AWS contracted with the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts/ArtSpace Herndon, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  ArtSpace Herndon has a 6 year proven track record of conducting calls for art and promoting artists and sales of artwork through exhibits and events.

 

The Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts is partially funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Virginia Commission for the Arts; the Arts Council of Fairfax County, and the Town of Herndon.

Amazon Web Service (AWS).

AWS seeks to purchase a wide range of original artwork in various media for their corporate office in Washington D.C from artists who are either current students, alumni, or faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) from all campuses or artists eighteen years and older who live, work, or have studios in the Metropolitan D.C. region.

ELIGIBILITY
  • Artists who are either:
    • VCUarts current students, alumni, or faculty members including those in the Undergraduate or MFA programs, whether based in Richmond, Virginia or elsewhere such as foreign locations of current International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP), International Partnership Programs, or the Doha Exchange in Qatar or
    • Artists in Metropolitan D.C. 18 years and older who live, work, or have studios in the region.
  • Artwork in any medium of 2D or 3D art, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, kinetics, photography, print making, ceramics, or fiber art.
  • All artwork submitted must be original and created by the artist submitting it; no copyrighted source material is permitted.
  • All reproducible media, such as photographs, lithographs, electronic art, silk screens, and castings, must be numbered limited editions.  
  • Each artist can submit up to three pieces of artwork.  A work of art may consist of more than one component.
  • Size/Weight Limit:  An artwork’s individual component cannot exceed the maximum permitted measurements of: 5 feet in length x 5 feet in width x 6 feet in height and weight of 50 pounds.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • Complete and submit registration online.  No mailed or hand delivered entry forms will be accepted.
  • Submit one digital image or one link for the artwork to AMZNart@artspaceherndon.com.  Image must be an accurate representation of the artwork.  

Digital images must be JPG format at 300 dpi resolution and a minimum of 1920 pixels on the smallest side.

Digital file name must include:

- Artist's last name, first initial, middle initial
- Title (if title is long, provide only the first 25 characters)
- Medium
- Total size in inches:  for 2D art:  height x width including frame, if applicable;  for 3D art:  height x width x depth including pedestal, if applicable
- Total weight in pounds
- Sales price in US dollars (not including tax)

RIGHTS

Artists grant AWS and the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts/ArtSpace Herndon the right to photograph and use images of artwork featured in the exhibit for educational and promotional purposes.

LIABILITY

Artwok is displayed at the artist's own risk.  Artists should insure their artwork.  Employees and volunteers of AWS and the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts are not liable for theft or damage to artwork in transit, on display or otherwise, or for theft of  payment for purchased art.

AGREEMENT

By registering and submitting images, artists agree to accept all provisions outlined in this Call for Art.  Artists hereby release and will defend, hold harmless, and indemnify AWS and the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts and their employees, contractors, volunteers, directors, and officers from and against any allegations or claims based on, or any loss, damage, settlement, cost, expense, and any other liability arising from any action related to this call for art.  Failure to comply constitutes withdrawal of the submission.

DEADLINE

All required submission materials must be received, as a complete application, before 11:55 p.m. Eastern Time on  May 3,  2015.  Incomplete, non-compliant, and late submissions will not be accepted.

SELECTION PROCESS

The AWS selection committee consists of designated AWS employees.  The committee will consider artistic excellence and appropriateness for display in their corporate building.

In their first round of jurying, the committee will review all submissions and choose artwork to be considered for purchase.  All artwork selected for purchase consideration is to be delivered to AWS for exhibition at the Grand Opening Reception of the AWS office in Washington D.C. 

A second round of jurying will be conducted of the exhibited artwork to select the pieces that AWS will purchase to be part of their permanent art collection and installed in the office.   

At the discretion and request of AWS jurors, certain artists who have previously fulfilled submission requirements may be asked to send image(s) of additional artwork(s) for consideration.   Additional images might or might not be selected for consideration for purchase.   

PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY

Artwork selected for purchase consideration must be prepared in the following manner:

  1. All artwork must have an information label attached to the back.  The label must be typed, no hand written labels, and include the following information:

         - Artist's full name
         - Artist's address
         - Artist's email address
         - Artist's phone number
         - Title of the artwork (must match the name provided in the submission)
         - Medium
         - Total size in inches
         - Sales price in US dollars, not including tax

2.  All artwork must have quality framing.

         - Gallery wrap is acceptable if the staples are on the back and edges are painted.
         - Floating frames are allowed.
         - Framed photographs printed on paper must be matted or have spacing bars.
         - All mats must be of archival quality.

3.  All framed artwork must be wired with high tensile wire using D-rings and ready for hanging.

         - No screw-eyes, screws, saw-tooth brackets, or nails allowed.
         - No string or nylon line allowed.

4.  Pedestals must be provided, if required to display 3-dimensional art.

         - Include the cost of the pedestal in the cost of the artwork.

Artwork may be rejected if it is not suitably framed, not ready to hang, or not the same as the image submitted.

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK

Artwork accepted for purchase consideration and exhibition must be delivered to the AWS location at the artist’s expense.     

The artist is responsible for delivery in person or by shipment via i.e. USPS, UPS, Fed Ex.  All shipped artwork must be adequately wrapped, boxed, and insured.

The delivery address will be provided to artists when they are notified that their artwork has been selected for purchase consideration and exhibition.

All artwork selected for purchase consideration and exhibition must arrive no later than TBA 2015.  If artwork is hand delivered, it must arrive between the hours of 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. Eastern Time on DATE TBA   2015.

The artist accepts full responsibility for the artwork at all times.  AWS and the Herndon Foundation  for the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts do not accept any responsibility for artwork at anytime whether in transit or displayed at the AWS building.

PICK UP OF UNSOLD ART

Any artwork that is not purchased must be removed by DATE TBA, 2015.  Any artwork left after 7 calendar days becomes the property of the Herndon Foundaton for the Cultural Arts.

Return shipping is the responsibility of the artist.  A packing fee will apply and arrangement must be made in advance with the AMNZart Project Director by email at AMZNart@artspaceherndon.com.

COMMISSION

All works accepted for purchase consideration will be available for purchase at the price designated by the artist during the registration process.  No commission will be retained for any artwork selected for purchase; 100% of the purchase price will be paid to the artist.  Applicable sales tax will be collected and paid by the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts.

PURCHASES

Artists whose artwork is purchased must supply a completed IRS W-9.  Artists may supply the W-9 when art is delivered or after notification of purchase decision.  Payment will be made only after a W-9 has been received.

Payment will be made to artists by the herdnon Foundation for the Cultural Arts no later than DATE TBA, 2015.
