Video Modeling & ASD– for Classroom, Home, and Therapy

This presentation is designed to create foundational understanding for the technology of the iPad,  available software applications, and support through evidencebased practice in order to maximize the effectiveness as a tool to support speech/language goals. This course will provide instruction on hardware, accessibility options, software applications, and specific and functional ways to utilize iPads to support speechlanguage therapy with the Exceptional Student population. It will include intro to the iPad technology and progress to indepth presentation of a variety of apps that support more traditional, researchbased speech language therapy techniques. It will provide recommendations for incorporating the iPad to support Positive Behavior Strategies.

Mai Ling Chan, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a Speech-Language Pathologist and the CoFounder and CEO of YappGuru, an online resource which provides expert reviews of therapy apps and is unifying the growing community of therapists, teachers, and parents who are embracing the use of tablet technology and digital learning.  She has over 8 years experience working with children and adults in both educational and medical settings and has been sharing her love of technology with a wide variety of diagnosis and skills levels. In addition to providing district wide, individual consultation on tablet technology to enhance Special Education Services, Mai Ling also presents at a variety of venues including school district professional development seminars and rehabilitation staff training.

Video Modeling is easier to use than ever due to new technology.  This keynote presentation will focus on current best practices for video modeling based on the latest research. Learn how you can use video modeling to improve language, behavior, and other skills.   Start putting it into practice tomorrow in your classroom, home, and therapy!

Teresa A. Cardon, PhD., CCC-SLP has worked with individuals on the autism spectrum for over 20 years. Dr. Cardon is currently the Director of Autism Studies at Utah Valley University. She completed her doctoral training in Speech & Hearing Science with an autism emphasis at Arizona State University. Dr. Cardon has published her research on autism in peer-reviewed journals and presents at conferences both nationally and internationally. Dr. Cardon’s first line of research focuses on video modeling with young children with autism. Her second line of research focuses on fictional narratives with character’s who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  She is the author of three books that offer intervention support for individuals on the autism spectrum: Top Ten Tips (2008), Initiations and Interactions (2006) and Let's Talk Emotions (2004).

Current Practices in Positive Behavior Support and How they Relate to Your Student, Child, or Adult

From multi-tiered systems of support for all students to individual plans for students/children/adults with ASD; from the use of restraint and seclusion to data-driven decision making; from ABA to PBS... This general overview will tie together many relevant issues and practices for parents, educators and other caregivers.

Daniel Davidson, PhD, BCBA-D is the director of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program (www.pbisaz.org) at Northern Arizona University.  He is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D). He has served as direct support provider, principal, administrator, consultant, university instructor, advocate and policy shaper, in order to improve the lives and services of people with disabilities and challenging behavior. Currently, Dan directs the PBISAz to support schools/districts/charters that strive to implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Support.
