"Ethics in Case Management"

Case Managers are routinely confronted by gray areas, which occur when there are multiple stakeholders demanding critical thinking.  Regardless of title or profession of origin, practitioners must appreciate that dealing with ethical dilemmas acknowledges there may not be a clear right and wrong, when a conflict occurs.  Valuable resources such as a professional code of ethics, awareness of the 5 basic ethical principles, should be viewed as practice guidelines and provide an excellent foundation in all disciplines.  They improve the quality of care in the emerging models of care, and transitions of care in practice settings, highlighting the importance of communication among all providers and practitioners.

"Motivational Interviewing For Case Managers"

Presented by Raphaela F. O'Day Ph.D.

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a specific clinical approach that guides how you talk to and interact with someone whose behavior you are working to help change. In this workshop, we will review the techniques, phrases, and responses that characterize MI and share best practices on applying this approach to your patient population. Please note that MI is a skill that takes time to acquire, so while this workshop provides an orientation to techniques, ongoing practice is strongly recommended.

Objectives:

  • Train individuals on the core components of motivational interviewing.
  • Teach people the foundational elements of MI.
  • Discuss specific MI tactics and how they are applied in clinical setting.
  • Provide examples of how these “come to life” when applied
