About the Course

The HAZWOPER Hazardous Materials course for general site workers is a 40-hour week-long class. The Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120) applies to employers and their employees who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances - including hazardous waste - and who are engaged in one of the following five operations:

  • Clean-up operations that are conducted at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites
  • Corrective actions covered by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Voluntary clean-up operations at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites
  • Operations conducted at treatment, storage, and disposal facilities regulated by RCRA
  • Emergency Response operations involving hazardous substances

  • Hazard/risk assessment techniques
  • Selection/use of PPE; decontamination procedures
  • Control, containment, and confinement operations
  • Implementing emergency response plans
  • Classification/identification/verification of materials
  • Incident Command System
