Online Conference 
Summer Session:  July 11, 2015

The 2015 AHAF & AAHA Conference will be held completely online.  You can join us from the comfort of your home. Come and see the wonderful presentations and spend some time socializing with us. Forget the hassles of reservations, travel, and luggage for this conference.  We are as convenient as your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone.  Join us live on any of these devices.

Two years from now, in 2017, AHAF will host the Conference with a grand event at a real convention hotel in honor of our 50th Anniversary. For the present, in 2015, we are trying something new with the complete convention online.  We hope that you will find the use of available technology easy, cost-effective, and convenient.  It is an adventure for us, too! But, we have great things prepared for you!

Mark Reddy

Mark's topic is: "Handwriting & Human Nature: What I can tell about you by the fact that you can write."  

What can we tell about a writer from the fact that they write? Beyond trait sign or holistic graphology, beyond typologies and hierarchies of need, even beyond theories of personality and character, the psychology of handwriting can also shed light on the nature of being human. The fact a human can use graphic symbolic expression and communication, in itself, tells us a great deal about the nature of that being. This presentation will consider a model of human nature based on the significance and implications of this distinctively human capacity to write. Further, this model may provide a coherent framework within which to integrate the various traits, qualities, and characteristics that can be identified by a graphologist. Let’s suspend what we know about handwriting analysis long enough to consider what the act of writing itself can tell us about the writer

Mark Reddy was born in Dodge City, Kansas, grew up in Latin America, served in the Army in Europe, graduated with BA from Adams State College in 1975, started studying handwriting analysis in late 1970s with first certifications in 1980s, MA from Prescott College in Psychology of Handwriting in 1997, taught Intro to Psychology of Handwriting for college credit at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, taught workshops and classes in handwriting analysis, has presented at several national handwriting conferences, did primary research on handwriting of suicides, worked as forensic document examiner specializing in handwriting identification including expert witness testimony in court.

Conference #2:  July 11, Afternoon: 1:00-2:30PM

Beverley East

Beverly will present:  "The Good, the Bad, and the Usual Suspects. Exploring the Criminal Mind from a Global Perspective: What their Handwriting Reveals."

This presentation will unravel perceptions about whether cultural differences define character or whether there is a common thread that runs throughout each profile regardless of background. Does the complexity of the mind override cultural differences? Some of these offenders may already be familiar to you and others not. Insightful observations will be gained from each profile as we explore…. What makes them tick or what ticked them off?

Beverley  East is a graphologist, a court-qualified forensic document examiner and author who has practiced for over twenty-five years. Her company, Strokes & Slants is based in Washington DC, but her work is divided between Jamaica and England as well. She was awarded the Flori Roberts - Ladies First Trailblazer award in 2002, for being the first woman of color worldwide to be qualified to practice graphology and questioned document analysis. Her articles include the “Reliability Research Study” for the British Institute of Graphologists. She has also hosted radio shows, made numerous television appearances and authored three books: Finding Mr. Write: A New Slant on Selecting the Perfect Mate; Reaper of Souls: A Novel of the Kendal Crash; and Bat Mitzvah Girl - Memories of a Jamaican Child.

Mathew Thomas

Mathew will present to us about attracting the next generation of Graphologists, and what makes Graphology so appealing in this day in age.  

Conference #3: Oct.10, Morning:10:30 AM-12:00 PM

Adam Brand

Adam will present:  "Aspects of the Stroke."

Adam Brand will outline some graphological theories related to stroke quality and the ductus—the raw material of handwriting. 

Adam was born on the Isle of Man, went to schools in England and the USA (Ohio), before reading history at Cambridge, taking an MBA at the University of Illinois and working for 3M in the UK and Europe. 

He was taught graphology by Jacqui Tew and awarded the BIG diploma in 1990.   He has been Chairman of the Association of Qualified Graphologists in the UK and at present is the Chairman of the British Institute of Graphologists.  His main interest is the use of graphology for recruitment. 

Conference #3: Oct. 10, Afternoon: 1:00-2:30 PM

Sarah Tucker

Sarah's topic:  "A Neurological Investigation into the Validity of Handwriting Analysis."

Proponents of graphology maintain that personality traits are manifested in fine motor expression (i.e., handwriting) and this study seeks to explore the relationship between personality, cognitive functioning and handwriting. Currently, the research on handwriting as a tool for personality assessment offers mixed results, some studies support the notion that it is a valid and reliable measure of character while others claim that it lacks scientific merit and that the accuracy of the graphological evaluations is no better than chance. Despite differing opinions in the scientific community, individuals retain handwriting examiners for their services for self-knowledge, relationship and vocational guidance, attorneys hire them as jury and trial consultants, and human resource departments hire them to assist in the selection of personnel.

In this talk we will summarize the results to date of this study in which we compared scores from neuropsychological and personality tests with evaluations received from handwriting examiners from around the world. Findings from this study may provide insight into the validity of handwriting analysis while at the same time help clarify much of the existing literature. Insights into how various personality traits are manifested in fine motor expression can provide valuable information to individuals who seek to understand how handwriting reflects personality and cognitive functioning.

Holmes, M.A., and her mother Ruth Holmes, C.D.E., are professional handwriting & document examiners whose forensic and personnel consulting firm, Pentec, Inc., advises individual, legal and corporate clients in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Now located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Duxbury, Massachusetts, Pentec, Inc. works frequently for human resource departments, financial institutions, police departments, manufacturers, individuals and attorneys in various parts of the country. Sarah graduated from Boston University in May of 2002 with a Master of Arts in Psychology and now works from the Boston office of Pentec, Inc.
