About the Course

The use of laser-based technology is rapidly expanding both in both the industrial and clinical settings. While laser technology is very powerful, if misused, laser devices can cause serious harm. This 4 hour continuing education course will cover the basics of laser technology and the associated prudent safety and health protective measures that should be employed.

Meet the Instructor!

Ben Edwards is the Radiation Safety Officer at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. A BLS Certified Laser Safety Officer and ABHP Certified Health Physicist, Ben holds a BS in Physics and an MS in Occupational Safety. He has a quarter century of radiation safety and laser safety experience spanning the biomedical research, medical, and academic environments, and has published several papers on operational laser safety.  He is a member of the Health Physics Society and the American Society of Safety Engineers.  He serves on the ANSI Z136 Accredited Standards Committee and the Board of Laser Safety.
