The Hawaiian Humane Society is an education and advocacy organization that shelters, protects, rescues, reunites and rehomes animals. It is Oahu's only open-admission shelter that welcomes all animals. Established in 1883, this non-profit organization is not a chapter of any group as there is no national humane society. Animal Hero Service Learning Training Class

Animal Hero Service Learning Training Class:
Preparing Students and Youth Groups to Help Oahu's Animals
This is a required class for students in grades 6 through 12 who want to help the Hawaiian Humane Society for a school or club project or to earn service hours. Students will identify their project and receive continuing mentorship upon class completion.

Please note: This class does not prepare students to do hands-on work with shelter animals. Click here if you  do not need service learning hours for your school and want to volunteer directly with the animals.

Class highlights

  • Animal Welfare 101 - Learn about problems that Oahu's pets face.
  • Interview Opportunity - A panel of experts from veterinary medicine, cruelty investigations and animal behavior will unleash how students can help.
  • Service Learning in Your Community - Learn how you can help animals. 
  • Meet & Greet an Orphan Animal - Interact with one of the hundreds of animals waiting to find their new home.

Presenter: Jesslin Sniffen

Jesslin Sniffen, youth programs assistant, is experienced as a classroom instructor, curriculum developer, teacher trainer, television producer and event organizer. Jesslin nurtures youth to be animal advocacy leaders. She also provides support for all Hawaiian Humane Society education initiatives including off-site presentations, shelter tours & youth classes and our quarterly online quizzes.
