PHS 50th Annual Bird Calling Contest

On March 28, 1963, Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds captivated the imagination of an entire nation, as swarms of birds took over the small Northern California town of Bodega Bay.  Caught up in the national fervor, it escaped the media’s attention that during the same spring, 1963, a second swarm of northern Californian birds took over Piedmont, Calif., and captivated the town with laughter.

While Hitchcock’s masterpiece never had a sequel, a new swarm of birds have returned every year to the annual Piedmont High School Bird Calling Contest, one of Piedmont’s most beloved traditions. Equal parts ornithology, drama and humor, the contest makes a delightful evening of light-hearted family entertainment.

Piedmonters of all ages are thrilled to celebrate the 50th Annual PHS Bird Calling Contest this year.

In addition to bragging rights, the top three finishers in this year’s competition will be heading to New York City where they have been invited to appear one final time on The Late Show with David Letterman.

This year’s contest will take place on Friday, April 17th, at 7PM in the Alan Harvey Theater.  Seating is extremely limited and we anticipate the event to sell out quickly.

Tickets will not be sold at the door.
