Each spring, Bereaved Families of Ottawa holds a special community memorial and fundraising event. The event is open to the public – a donation or partaking in raising pledges in memory of your loved one is required to participate in or watch the ceremony. Pre-purchase your butterflies online.
This year, BFO is hosting its 4th annual Walk to Remember and Live Butterfly Release Event on May 31st at Beechwood, the National Cemetery of Canada. The event will be three-part: memorial ceremony, live butterfly release, and walk to remember. Pre-order your butterflies, to release in honour of your loved-one, by registering below and/or raising pledges either online or with the paper form.
MEMORIAL CEREMONY
The event begins with a memorial ceremony in the Sacred Space inside the Beechwood National Memorial Centre. This part of the event features live harp and flute music, an inspirational reading and speaking the names of loved ones who have passed.
LIVE BUTTERFLY RELEASE
From the memorial ceremony, we move to the hill overlooking the garden and pond, to share with your family and friends in a symbolic release of live painted lady butterflies. Butterflies are symbol of hope and transformation.
WALK TO REMEMBER
Lastly, a memorial walk will take place. At your own pace, complete a full (1.5hrs) or partial (45min) figure 8 path through the beautiful grounds, giving yourself opportunity to reflect and share memories as you enjoy the unique grounds of the Beechwood Cemetery.
