by the Historic House Trust's LatimerNOW pilot project at the Lewis H. Latimer Historic House Museum in Flushing, Queens.  This is a unique opportunity during which GHHN members and friends can come together to enjoy a relaxing evening of conversation, discovery, food and drink, and camaraderie!

 

LatimerNOW is Remixing the Museum Experience! Serving as a resource for storytelling and multiculturalism for the greater New York community, our program highlights the wonder of creativity, diversity and identity.  LatimerNOW offers bilingual tours, a tinkering lab, a steamy selfies photobooth, a community lending library, an immigration archive, family friendly cultural events and monthly social justice salons. We incubate an atmosphere of discovery, welcoming visitors to touch, rate and take pictures of everything! Audiences can connect with Latimer historic house the way they connect with their own homes, through art, language and dialogue

The Latimer House was home to storied African American scientist Lewis H. Latimer; the father of the modern light bulb. LatimerNOW continues to tell Lewis Latimer's unconquerable story, as an inventor, a renaissance man, and an active citizen during the early 20th century.  We develop novel and engaging programing to transform our historic house site into a community hub, championing social justice, and embracing the creative spark, that fuels the maker spirit in us all
