Threshing Day 2015
It's time for our Annual Threshing Day Event! This is an all-day Farm-Stravaganza at the beautiful Wholesome Valley Farms in Wilmot, OH (about an hour drive from downtown Cleveland)-- the source of many of our delicious foods including our Guernsey Milk. This is also one of our favorite events every year-- it's really special to get to watch up close and participate in a day in the life on a Farm.
We'll watch a traditional Amish Threshing, where the seed (berry) is removed from the cereal grain (oats, corn, wheat, rye, etc). In this case, we'll be threshing oats. First, the oats are harvested by a horse-drawn reaper (as seen below!), then they're loaded onto a wagon and fed by pitchfork into an antique diesel-powered thresher, where the oat berries are separated from the stalk.
After the threshing, we'll enjoy a traditional full Threshing Day lunch prepared by the Amish families (chicken, corn, potatoes, desserts and much more.) In the afternoon, we'll have a bunch of fun activities for kiddos, cool classes for adults, and tours of the farm.
And finally at the end of the day, guests are invited to walk the farm and meet some of the animals that are being raised for Fresh Fork Market, including meat chickens, laying hens (eggs), grassfed beef, and pastured pork.
Schedule of Events
9:30am: Arrival at the farm* (see note below about transportation)
10:00am SHARP: The Main Event! The Reaping and Threshing
12:00pm: Traditional Threshing Day Lunch
1:00-2:30 pm: Classes and Games
2:30- till time to go home: Afternoon walk and tour of the farm

Classes for Adults
Lacto-Fermentation: discussing what is lacto-fermentation and the nutritional benefits
Whole-Wheat Baking: with bread-baking demonstration
Canning: discussion of technique and a demonstration
Classes are scheduled one right after the next,
so guests may participate in all three

Egg Collecting (bring your cameras!)
Playtime in the Corn box (similar to a sandbox filled with corn kernals)

Each family will also get to take some goodies home with them. The gift bundle will include a small loaf of freshly baked bread, a dozen eggs (collected by all the kids), and some fresh veggies from the farm. One gift bundle provided per family.
A Special Note on Transportation
Please note that this event is in Wilmot, OH on a farm. It is approximately an hour drive from downtown Cleveland. We are not providing transportation but if you are interested in carpooling, please consider posting something on the Fresh Fork Market Facebook page to try to find other customers interested in carpooling.
