Adult Rowing Registration

Welcome to Cohasset Maritime Institute's Adult Summer Rowing Program!

*  Rowers of any and all experience levels are welcome at CMI.
*  You may sign up with friends to make up a boat of rowers, or we will assign you to boats with compatible rowers.

The adult rowing season is Sunday, May 17- Sunday, August 17. The seasonal fee is $375. If you haven't rowed with CMI and want to see what it is all about, try our four-session Learn-To-Row for just $75.  The fee for (experienced) scullers is $188. Youth rowing (entering 7th grade and higher) is a separate registration.

Learn to Row and test the waters!

If you want to try rowing but are unsure about committing for the season, we recommend our Learn to Row ("LTR") program. We find that novices pick up the skill pretty quickly and soon are moving boats along in a smooth crew.  For $75, a new rower will be assigned to 4 designated sessions at the beginning of the season:

DATES

 Sat 5/16 | Sun 5/17 | Mon 5/18 | Wed 5/20 | Sat 5/23 | Sun 5/24 | Wed 5/28

TIMES

Sat & Sun 6-7:30am | 7:30-9am | 9-10:30am | Mon & Wed  6:30-8pm

When you register, you will be asked to pick 6 possible times for your four sessions in this two-week period. We will assign you to four LTR sessions (on four separate days).  Please note that your first session must be on Sat 5/16, Sun 5/17 or Mon 5/18.

If you enjoyed LTR, you are encouraged to join the seasonal program (paying an additional fee - the $75 counts toward the seasonal fee of $375.) Then you will be placed in boats with compatible rowers.

Adult Seasonal Rowing Times

CMI offers a great variety of morning, evening and weekend rowing times.  Please register no later than Friday, May 1st to be included in the initial slot assignment process.  Those registering after that date will be slotted on a best efforts basis.  If demand for a rowing time slot exceeds the number of available slots, we will "pull names out of a hat" or some other neutral manner, from those crews/rowers who have signed up by May 1.  That said, it is *crucial* that you list your choices when you register.

Typically, adults row twice a week. The slots are listed below.

When you register, you'll be asked for your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices of days/time slots, and who else might be rowing with you, if you have pre-arrangements.

We will not offer time slots if there are not enough rowers for that time. The available slots, for all

experience levels, are as follows:

Mondays 6-7:30am | 7:30-9am | 9-10:30am | 6:30-8pm

Tuesdays 6-7:30am | 7:30-9am | 9-10:30am | 5-6:30pm | 6:30-8pm

Wednesdays 6-7:30am | 7:30-9am | 9-10:30am | 5-6:30pm | 6:30-8pm

Thursdays 6-7:30am | 7:30-9am | 9-10:30am | 5-6:30pm | 6:30-8pm

Saturdays 6-7:30am | 7:30-9am | 9-10:30am | 10:30am-12pm

Sundays 6-7:30am | 7:30-9am | 9-10:30am | 10:30am-12pm | 4-5:30pm

*Note that there is no rowing Mon 5/25 (Memorial Day).

Program Fees

Seasonal adult rowing fee is $375.  This covers use of all boats plus the rowing ergs in our boathouse. Most rowers row in two scheduled 90 minute sessions per week in a Four.  Some members row less, some more, depending upon preference and schedule.

Learn to Row is $75 and covers up to four 90 minute instructional sessions to learn to row in a Four. This fee can be applied toward the full season if the rower desires to continue rowing past the initial four sessions.  The  Learn-to-row Add-on seasonal fee is $300.

Substitute Rower fee is $100 for the season and puts you on the Substitute List to row in a boat when a scheduled rower is not able to row at their appointed time.  The Program Director will make your name available for appropriate boats and crews that are seeking substitutes.  We are exploring an online system to improve communication regarding crew assignments and substitute opportunities.

Sculling fee is $188 for experienced rowers who row sculls only.   This is a one time only sale representing a 50% savings over our Seasonal Adult Rowing fee.   Experience is subject to certification by CMI.

Payments for Fees may be paid by credit card, Paypal, or check.  Click the Register Now link below to get started!

USRowing Waiver (*required of all rowers)

Please sign your 2015 USRowing waiver at https://rosters.usrowing.org.   Click "Sign Waiver" in the Athletes box, then follow the instructions to complete the process. Our Club Code is 4DFQU.

Come to our Open House Saturday, April 25th 9-11am

Feel free to come to our Open House at the CMI Boathouse at 40 Parker Avenue to ask questions, see the boats, take a spin on a rowing machine.  Registration is online only, so it is not necessary to come to the Open House for that purpose. Feel free to contact CMI with questions.

Boats, Rowing and Scheduling

We have several one-person (“singles”) and two-person (“doubles”) boats, plus four 4-person (“fours”) boats, all specially designed for ocean rowing in the waters off Cohasset

Most members row about twice a week in cox’d Fours.  Time slots are assigned for the season by the CMI Program Director based on the members' time preferences (on a best efforts basis) from the registration.  Some members form their own groups of four, or the CMI Program Director will help rowers new to CMI join other rowers with similar interests and abilities.

Rowers must be pre-qualified for use of singles and doubles, which are then available first come first serve during CMI operating hours.

Program Directors and Coaching Staff

CMI has great leadership on the water in 2015.  We have a great staff of cox’n coaches to guide our boats and rowers this summer.   Abi Kornet is CMI's new Rowing Program Director, John Liffman is our veteran Youth Program Director, and Betts Murray is Executive Director.

Save the Date! Cox'n Appreciation Night will be Tuesday, August 11th.  Always a fun event to wish your favorite cox'ns well!

CMI Safety Policy

CMI has important safety policies which apply to every participant in a CMI rowing program.  Please take a moment to read them.  Policies include requirement to sign a USRowing Waiver, minimum levels of Rowing Fitness and expectations for Courtesy & Sportsmanship.
