This two-part session will provide a thorough overview of emerging trends in both areas so we can best address SUD in our local communities.

Guest Speakers: Dr. Ken Dickinson, Dr. Yngvild Olsen and Amy Martin

Learning Objectives:

  1. List the signs and symptoms associated with the "New Psychoactive Substances".
  2. Identify therapeutic modalities and interventions that are available.
  3. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of the medications approved for the treatment and/or relapse prevention of opioid dependence.
  4. Identify the basic science of addiction and the pharmacology of opioid and alcohol use disorder medications.
  5. Describe the recovery-oriented system of care framework, the history of the 12 step-approach, and how these concepts can align with a chronic disease.
